NNTP unreachable

my nntp client (thunderbird) times out when trying to hook up with support-forums.novell.com, and pings are not responded to…

traceroute hits a firewall after 12.127.106.34 (unknown.att.net):disapointed:

At least the http interface works. Try it you might like it…<winding spring> :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s working okay for me at the moment. Perhaps it was a temporary issue. How’s it now DenverD?

it was down several hours on saturday prior to my posting–would have
been friday evening/saturday morning, left coast time…

was up when i awoke on sunday morn (sat night there)…hmmmm, suppose
i should have posted that here…but, didn’t think about it…

i notice that my original post (made in the web interface) did not
flow to the nntp side after it came back on the net…which is
another web<->nntp ‘problem’ that probably ought to get ironed out if
the company wants the community to accommodate all who come here with
help-need or help-give…

DenverD,

All is right with the NNTP world this morning. We had a router that decided
if humans don’t have to work on the weekend, neither did it.

LOL!!

i wonder, if you could post here (and/or put a sticky over there) a
24x7 technical contact point any user could use to inform of an
outage (before email/posts are read by TPTB on Monday)…for either
(both) side(s)…

this is the second time in the new forums short history of users
having to wait for someone to come to work…(the other was something
about a broken link with the Novell sign-in, WAY back in June or
July…and, there was nothing done…hmmmmm, maybe that was three
day weekend…fuzzy memory, sorry)

i know, it is not THAT big a deal…unless the user is ready to jump
out the window because he lost his mom’s recipe database (in the Live
CD 11.0 w/KDE4.0 formatted away Vista partition)…

Not quite. The first time a couple of weeks ago was, and we’ve dealt with that process to ensure it doesn’t happen again. This time the problem was reported via the process, and the proper people were notified and the issue was fixed as soon as possible.

hmmmm…the sign in problem which i addressed was at least three
weeks ago…

here is a quote froma 29 Jun note by ‘kastorff’ that followed the
problem: “We’re quite unhappy about the iChain issue with random
session termination as well. We’ve obviously got some work to do
regarding the availability of Novell support resources on weekends.”

probably seemed shorter to you because of your vacation

you are correct, this time it was fixed sometime Saturday eve (my
time)…for that we are thankful…

i wonder if the outage was noticed first by a moderator/system admin,
or it if it was picked up on because of the “nntp out” thread in the
web forum…

A couple, three, four…I won’t argue over it. :beat-up:

It was actually noticed first and reported by some of the staff over in the Novell forums.
