Smile openjkd v sun jdk

Is there a difference between Sun's JDK and openJDK? I am trying to run an a simple applet which has been written by my university lecturer. The problem is that when i run as applet only half the screen displays under opensuse linux 11.1 / eclipse 3.5 / openJDK-1.6.

Program works in Windows XP / Eclipse 3.5, Sun JRE 1.6

The applet is available here:

Further on this file, I had to refresh the applet window three times before it displayed correcltly in linux.

I would switch to Sun - You need to remove openJDK.
