Just saw this on the NVIDIA drivers site. They released a 180.22 version today, 1/8.
http://http://www.nvidia.com/object/...32_180.22.html Now, I'm trying to figure out if the suse NVIDIA repository will have this new version in it or should I download from their site? Also, I have 180.18 beta running perfectly. What to do, what to do? |

This was an important fix for me..... although I have overcome the issue it seems with just trying different selections on simple-csm (switch from default to another setting and back again). "Fixed a regression that could result in window decoration corruption when running Compiz using Geforce 6 and 7 series GPUs." As they say... "If it ain't broke.....!!" I upgraded manually without any issues from 177.82. -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) openSUSE 11.1 x86 Kernel 2.6.27.7-9-pae up 2 days 0:38, 1 user, load average: 0.01, 0.44, 0.44 GPU GeForce 6600 TE/6200 TE - Driver Version: 180.22 |

I first had to figure out how to uninstall the beta driver. Having done that, I added the nvidia suse repository then installed the driver. However, It is showing as being version 177.82. Did you download the driver and install that way? Funny thing is, I am not getting the hang ups and sluggish behavior that I was with the previous 177.82 version installed. |

BTW...is there any way of installing it via user level without having to log out? Every time I download something that requires installation as root. I forget, have to log out, log in as root and then re download it. Kinda annoying... EDIT: How come this wasn't in the repository? And how long does it generally take for them to update it? Everything is good now with 180.22 and KDE 4.2 beta 2. Just waiting for the real thing in a few weeks!!! |

No, you need to be at runlevel 3 and why re-download it(???), just cd to the download location or add the full path to the Nvidia file??? Try using the virtual terminals to login, just logout, then ctrl+alt+F1 and login as root, then run; Code:
init 3 sh /full/path/to/nvidia_installer -q then when finished init 5 && exit -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) openSUSE 11.1 x86 Kernel 2.6.27.7-9-pae up 2 days 3:55, 1 user, load average: 0.19, 0.30, 0.26 GPU GeForce 6600 TE/6200 TE - Driver Version: 180.22 |

I have 180.22 installed. But SAX2 reports the card as "VESA Framebuffers Graphics."
Any way to manually change xorg.conf to have it with the proper NVIDIA settings? Or is this fine, and will keeping it as is break something? BTW...I reinstalled and am back with KDE 4.13, and I honestly think that it is the ultimate FAIL with the problems I have had...

As other have pointed out, the main issue with KDE 4 is one of terminology. Instead of beta 1 and 2 for "feature release" 4.2, KDE 4.2 should itself be called a beta release, with a series of builds.
Then of course, there is the question as to whether KDE 4-4.2 meet a reasonable standard for beta quality. In opensource software development alphas aren't internal, but the alpha label serves as a warning. Personally, I think Opensuse (and other distros) should have waited until kde 4.3 and then even labeled that as beta software, keeping 3.5 as the default. A working environment for a packaged "operating system" should be really stable. Crashes with plasma and dolphin file transfers, for example, should have been approaching extreme rarity before KDE 4 was included as a default desktop option. Likewise, yet to be updated versions of knetworkmanager and kmix visually glitch, but an operating system should have fit and finish, to avoid comparison with Windows Vista. |

Ok, I deleted all of the stuff from the repository (hoping that it would have the upated driver). And installed the 180.22 driver after downloading it.

sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia You can manually change the xorg.conf file as root: Code:
edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf Code:
:save! /etc/X11/xorg.conf
