Code:
/desktop/gnome/applications/main-menu/lock-down/showable_file_types
Just remove '1' from the list.
Unfortunately it doesn't help. After starting a VMware virtual machine the messages are back again.

Glad to hear you are enjoying openSUSE!

The error you are getting is probably related to the VMWare Server 2.0 plugin... have you installed this by any chance?

you can clear the error by reseting your recently used data by opening a terminal console:

Code:
echo . > ~/.recently-used.xbel
This will only empty your history listing of last opened applications and documents - (no data will be cleared). Not to bad, but just so you know what it does.

Also have a look at this thread : Slab popups all the time - openSUSE Forums

Hope that helps!

I tried this at first alone but it came back after a couple of minutes.

Delete the file and make a directory with the same name:

Code:
rm ~/.recently-used.xbel
mkdir ~/.recently-used.xbel
Then I tried this alone and the history in slab panel is no longer kept. I didn't like it.
I faced another problem and I had to restart the panel using
Code:
killall gnome-panel
then i deleted the folder
Code:
rm -r ~/.recently-used.xbel
and now it works real great.

The problem came to me after I did a fresh installation for the root partition only. it did not come for me from VMware server because I don't use it.
hope it works for some one else.

Thanks for the post, balayoub! Has anyone had success with this method? I tried it but to no avail. The error seemed to go away for a bit but returned as soon as I logged into VM via firefox. Of course I'm using the most up to date openSuse install.

Dang.. I really need this to work, too!

Hi
I have the same problem with Suse11.1 and the bundle of VMware player 2.5.1

All happen when i open a virtual machine the first time...
The problem is that in the .recently-used.xbel file the program
write the path and the name of the vmx file opened without the prefix file://
If I correct it, the next time the pgm don't read it but create a new one!

Someone know how to correct it?

Sorry for my bad english...
Thanks a lot!

Bye

For me that fixed the problem:
Goto your user directory (/home/$USER)

Then:
chattr +i .recently-used.xbel

No problems anymore!

hi guys,

I had the same problem after running a VM (wokrstation 6.5.1) the very first time.

After that, every time I opened up any application the same pop-up rose up.

I switch from that menu to the traditional an it works like a charm!

"

Hope this can be helpful
If you prefer to use the traditional menu, then do the following;

1. Right click on Slab, then select "Remove from Panel"

2. Right click on the empty space in the panel, then select "Add to panel..."

3. Select 'Traditional Main Menu' from the list

"

Hope this can be helpful

regards

HH

Thumbs up Problem is linked to bookmark

Everytime, when you use your virtual machine, slab makes new bookmark in file ~/.recently-used.xbel. You needn't clear all file. It suffices to delete every bookmark which contains link to vmware files. Probably bookmark linked to .vmx and VMware Firefox plugin. Every bookmark is between tags <bookmark> </bookmark>. From <bookmark> to </bookmark> you should delete all (including this tags).

In an Ubuntu Forum i found another Solution, that works permanently:

Delete the file and make a directory with the same name:

Code:
rm ~/.recently-used.xbel
mkdir ~/.recently-used.xbel
The directory prevents the creation of a new file. Now Slab hasnt the last accessed documents, but i dont need this feature.
This works for me. I have a bit of concern with blindly changing a file to a dir but so far I've seen to ill effects.

Changing the attributes of ".recently-used.xbel" to make it unwritable did make the error messages go away. But, now I am unable to install software or update the system, and who knows what else!
In my case I just did a fresh install of opensuse 11.1 and it was not up to date when vmware 2.5 was compiled and installed. The problem seemed to have occured upon the creation of the first virtual machine.
The system was not up to date, and I updated the kernel headers and several applications after compiling the vmware. As soon as I rebooted the ugly error started poping up in many places. I am completely in over my head... but I'm learning!

I suppose I'll have a lot of fun trying to figure this out, so I'll post again if I come up with anything worth writing about.
