Arrow The topics is In western Canada?

It is openSuse Marketing why I can get only one or two stores in Vancouver B.C Canada?
Is there a outlet in Vancouver?

Cheers

I understand what your trying to say with respect to having a marketing presence perhaps, but in practical terms, online shopping is far more efficient than having shops with overheads. The vast majority of users obtain openSUSE free via download anyway. It would be interesting to see a poll on how many bought boxed sets vs free donwload, magazine DVDs etc.

Don't complain! There are none here in Québec City (at least, none that I am aware of). In fact, it is often difficult to find hardware compatible with Linux. I had to resort to one very-well known computer shop from Vancouver!!

So you are better than most of us.

Future Shop, Canada Computers, Tiger Direct and Chapters use to stock SuSE Linux. I've purchased SuSE products at Future Shop and Chapters in the past. Unfortunately I don't believe any of those organizations carry OpenSuSE now. I'm not sure who to blame.

Staples, Office Depot, and Business Depot, use to carry Mandrake and Red Hat Linux boxed sets. In Vancouver you might be able to get Antec to order OpenSuSE box set for you. I don't know if they still do that. Frontier Computers might also. I'd call up Future Shop head office in Burnaby and ask to talk to someone in products and services; or store development, and ask if they have anything against Linux.

I frequently grab Linux Pro Magazine at Chapters. The last issue I purchase had OpenSuSE 11.1 (32 bit). I haven't been fortunate enough to find a Linux Magazine with OpenSuSE 11.1 (64 bit) yet. There is a second hand computer book store at Cambie at... the street below Broadway, accross from Burger King, they might carry off-shelf OpenSuSE clearance products. There are other retail outlets all over the Lower Mainland that will order OpenSuSE for you. It would cost less to order box set directly from Novell Canada.

But don't tell them I told you that!

Thanks. Unfortunately there are no Chapters' stores here in Québec city (not that I am aware and Google did not cast any result). No joy!

Still, it is almost the same price to buy from Vancouver mainly because a) FutureShop are bastards and b) I save money in provincial taxes which in turn serves to pay shipping costs.

Indigo Books? Not shopping in "the" Province might get you shipped one way to Vancouver.

I think there is a Linux friendly computer store in Montreal.

Try this gang: Montreal Linux Users Group | Montreal Linux News and Help

They know everything there is to know about anything that is important in Quebec and Linux.

Then you can help rebuild the infrastructure.

A few years back, I enquired at Futureshop what happened to Linux distro's. Their responce was, "We are not allowed to continue to sell our primary software series if we continue to stock Linux versions. Put simply, Linux will not happen as long as Windows and windows apps hold the marketplace."
