Epson Perfection 3490 Photo - openSUSE
Well, I tried it for openSuse 11.1 x86_64 and couldn't get my 3490 to work. What did work, though, was the following:
1. Delete all the iscan (free, proprietary, firmware, and snapscan) installs in Yast-Software Management. leave nothing checked in the iscan grouping.
2. Go to the following AVASYS page (which has the Epson proprietary drivers for the 3490 scanner and others) and download the iscan code AND the proprietary plugin for firmware. For me it was:
- iscan-2.10.0-1.c2.i386.rpm and
- iscan-plugin-gt-f520-1.0.0-1.c2.i386.rpm
(Yes, I know it has i386 in the name but, believe me, it works fine.)
Here's the AVASYS Link:
Scanner | AVASYS CORPORATION
You obviously have to select your scanner, and select from the "we need the info" drop-downs at the bottom before proceeding to the actual download page for your specific files/rpms.
After the two downloads are complete, use Konquerer file manager and right-click on the main (first) .rpm and select "Open with install Software". It installs in a few seconds, no messages. Then do the same for the second (plugin) .rpm.
If you are lucky, then afterwards you will have a shortcut to iscan in the "Graphics" section of the Kicker menu. If not, then just create a shortcut to "/usr/bin/iscan" in your menu or on your desktop.
It should work straight off. Once in a while, after installing it, I've had to reboot, but it always worked after this, if not straight after installation.
