Default KDE 4.3.2 HowTo for 11.1

KDE 4.3.2 HowTo for openSUSE 11.1

I have been running 4.3.* from Factory for quite some time. But it frozen now for the release of 11.2, however a new repository has been provided to allow users to add the latest kde release 4.3.2
In order to use this please follow these directions:

FIRST

SECOND

I have successfully done the above from 4.3.1 freeze (Not from 4.2) It's possible some conflicts may arise doing this from 4.2 – If it does. Use the expert button in the error box, save it to file, then paste it in a question in the forum: openSUSE Forums

Compiz Note:
  • I had to change the priority of my kde43 repo so it was higher than Updates. This will make all Compiz come from kde43. If you use Compiz repositories you may have other complications to navigate.

Quote:
Points Copied from the kde4.3.* HowTo:
KDE4.3.* Upgrade - HowTo - openSUSE Forums

Things to Consider.
*Learn how to use Software Management – Filter by Repositories. And then using the options from the 'Package' menu button: Update all in this list (If newer version available) or (Unconditionally).
*If you have a mine field of repositories, consider just leaving OSS, NON-OSS, UPDATES and KDE repo's enabled for this upgrade.

You may have to delete some packages eg: kde4-dolphin - why?:
The kde4 prefix has been dropped in most cases. This prefixed all package names and was part of the transition from kde3. See info here: KDE4 Name Changes - Making the transition - HowTo - openSUSE Forums
Look through the repository filter 'System'. Check any packages that show as Red and in the version tab. This will reveal if you still have old 4.1.3 or even 4.2.* packages which had the kde4 prefix. A quick check and you will see that the prefix has been dropped and kde4-dolphin is now just dolphin.

Repository priority:
OSS, NON-OSS both at 120
All the rest at 99
This was explained in the .4.2.* HowTo.

EDIT
I have made a short clip of Unconditional Update in Yast Software Management. You can download it here (4.4MB): carl4926 - Unconditional Update in Yast Software management

EDIT+
As of September 2009, now KDE4.3.1
Also look out for kaffeine and k3b - these packages have been added to the kde4 factory repo and will update from that repo if you allow it. BUT you don't want these packages from kde4, you need to use the Packman versions. The correct choice when asked is: "Do Not Install blah...blah... version #...". If in doubt check the 'Version Tab' to what you are using and that the radio button is showing from Packman.
N.B
I now have Packman at the highest priority to eliminate some of these conficts.
Just if anyone is interested, here are my repo settings:

Code:
1 | packman_1 | packman | Yes | Yes | 90 | rpm-md | http://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/packman/suse/11.1/ |
2 | 43_Desktop | 43 Desktop | Yes | Yes | 98 | rpm-md | http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/43/openSUSE_11.1/ |

How can I solve this issue base on passed updates specially python seem alway be an issue

Beside this:
how do I get easiest the following information:

a) when a repository is frozen like the factory rep. mentioned here
b) when a community repro is out for KDE 4.3.2
c) when and if a 4.3.2 playground repro will be created

Thanks a lot
Michael

I assume that the KDE 4.3.1 core pakages repro is now the desktop repro mentioned above?

Thanks a lot

Thanks for letting us know. If others can do the same, that will be good, as some users are cautious with this because of the downgrades. Some have done it by just updating if newer ver avail. Seems to work either way.

Worked here too. Something printer-related crashed after restarting X but to no apparent ill effect (have just printed a test page).

Default Re: KDE 4.3.2 HowTo for 11.1

Hi all,

Does anybody knows if there is any problem with the repositories this days? I have followed the steps, even disabled the rest of the repos. and let only the listed by caf with the same priority. The thing is that I still have some KDE4.3 components in red and some in blue. Some pretend to update to 4.3.2 and some, as Amarok and others tend to go to old versions (Amarok 1.4) (also showing the possibility to go to 2.2.0 from packman, but not to 2.2.5)

What am I doing wrong??
Thank you for the help!

PS: My repositories list is the same as in the step-by-step.
