Hi, its been almost 6 months since openSUSE 11.1 was released to the masses and it has taken me this long to write and finalise my configuration guide. I hope you enjoy it, you can read my openSUSE 11.1 Guide now if you want. It can also be downloaded as a PDF too.
I wrote a guide for 10.3 and I enjoyed writing it too. It seemed to get a lot of hits so it must have been popular to some people. I hope that this edition for 11.1 can be as useful to all the Linux newbies out there, just like me. I consider this to be my way of giving something back to the community. Enjoy! PS Comments are more than welcome!

Have you considered putting this up somewhere on the openSUSE wiki instead of your own private site? I think it might get more visibility there, more contribution, more comments and might inspire more to do similar things with current and/or future versions. |

Good work.
As cjcox suggested, it would be a great idea to make this available under openSUSE wiki to get more visibility.

Very comprehensive -- well done.
I think you should put a qualifier/warning on the Sudo section. You have recommended repositories that are at the "bleeding edge". Maybe you should make an additional segment for users who want stable behaviour and then make it well-differentiated from the bleeding edge segment. New users might have problems if blindly using the build service repos for normal everyday use. I see a bunch of tips there for me too -- very interesting.

I did think about it yes, as I see your points. However, I have chosen to create my work under the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial licence which means that it is incompatible with the GNU FDL which the Wiki uses, see Legal - openSUSE and Various Licenses and Comments about Them - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation (FSF)
Thanks though, it was something which I did think about.

Yeah, I know. See the reply which I posted to cjcox about why I haven't though.

Yeah, I did know about the disk group work around as it is in the guide already. I was having some issues with it myself and stumbled upon the same bug, which I have linked to in the guide.
I do know about 4.2, however, when I force updated to 4.2 I got some horrible stability issues so I had to do a complete re-install. It is my experience to stick with the version of KDE which was distributed with your particular OS version, except for bug fixes. I do give a warning about sudo in the text and explain why it isn't always a wise thing to do. It's up to them.

I do put a sentence about the inherent risks of sudo in that section of the guide with a brief outline of the possible pitfalls.
With respect to the repositories comment, are you refering to the Build Service repositories for PHP and Mozilla and the like? In my experience they are really quite stable and often have all the bug fixes whilst the main update repository lags behind. I have recommended the STABLE:/ repositories for KDE4 though, as they are much more stable than the others ones in my opinion. Do you think this isn't the best situation? Thank you for the comments

Oh, I forgot to say, if you don't want to read it at a private site then you can download the PDF from deviantART too, just go to openSUSE 11.1 Guide by =Guymer on deviantART
