openSUSE-11.2 LIVE CDs

There are now a number of liveCD offerings for openSUSE-11.1, all of which are installable. It is hoped they will soon be available for openSUSE-11.2, shortly after the release.

Novell/SuSE-GmbH liveCDs:
There are installable liveCDs (packaged by Novell/SuSE-GmbH) for:

• openSUSE-11.1 (32-bit and 64-bit) with KDE-4.3.1 desktop. Go here for download: Software.openSUSE.org
• openSUSE-11.1 (32-bit and 64-bit) with Gnome-2.8 desktop. Go here for download: Software.openSUSE.org

openSUSE community liveCDs
and there are liveCDs packaged by the openSUSE community for:

• openSUSE-11.1 (32-bit and 64-bit) with KDE-4.3.x desktop. Go here for download: "KDE Four Live" CD
• openSUSE-11.1 (32-bit and 64-bit) with KDE-3.5.10 desktop. Go here for download: Carlos Goncalves: Unofficial KDE 3.5 Live CD for openSUSE 11.1 (Note - this may not be available for openSUSE-11.2 ... )

In all cases, after downloading:

• be certain to do an md5sum check of the downloaded file vs the posted md5sum value
• be certain to also burn at the slowest speed to the highest quality media available, to ensure the highest probability of a successful installation
• during the install, when you have a hiccup, pull out your digital camera (if you have one) take a snap shot of the error message(s). You can use the digital camera image as a refresher as to the error message, or even post the image on the web to illustrate your point/error
• and finally, after the above (or during the above) log on to our forum and ask for support. You can also get good support from IRC freenode channel #suse

possible Commercial DVD hiccup on 32-bit PCs

If you get this error on your commercial boxed DVD when trying to install on a 32-bit openSUSE-11.2 do NOT panic !!

This happened to one of our moderators, although this may be PC specific and also limited to very few commercial DVDs.

So if this happens, please, instead just press <return> and you will get the next resultant screen:


Now just type in the install that you wish to do next to the >boot prompt, and installation will occur properly.

This is a bug that only impacts 32-bit users, and was unfortunately discovered after the DVD was submitted to press for burning.
