It certainly does work. But you don't give us much to go on. WPA should work fine and is far better security than WEP.
The settings must be in place in the router to enable the connection Eg; is it using address reservation and access control by MAC address? What is your device? Do this and post result Code:
/sbin/lspci -nnk

Okay... I just reinstalled openSUSE 11.1, and since I heard such great reviews about KDE 3.5 and how bad KDE 4.0 was, I decided to install KDE 3.5. Now here is my issue.
Previously, (when running under KDE 4.0) the wireless interface worked, though sometimes I had to wait a few minutes after boot up, but it did operate... Now that I reinstalled, I can't get the darned thing to work. Frustrating. Anyway, looking at the output from dmesg here are the last few lines: --------- wlan0: deauthenticated wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:1e:c7:e7:67:29 wlan0: authenticated wlan0: associate with AP 00:1e:c7:e7:67:29 wlan0: RX ReassocResp from 00:1e:c7:e7:67:29 (capab=0x31 status=0 aid=2) wlan0: associated ForceXPAon: 0 ForceXPAon: 0 ForceXPAon: 0 ForceXPAon: 0 ForceXPAon: 0 wlan0: deauthenticated wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:1e:c7:e7:67:29 wlan0: authenticated wlan0: associate with AP 00:1e:c7:e7:67:29 wlan0: RX ReassocResp from 00:1e:c7:e7:67:29 (capab=0x31 status=0 aid=2) wlan0: associated ForceXPAon: 0 ForceXPAon: 0 ForceXPAon: 0 ForceXPAon: 0 ForceXPAon: 0 SFW2-INext-DROP-DEFLT-INV IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=00:1f:16:be:54:6b:00:1e:c7:e7:67:29:08:00 SRC=130.57.4.12 DST=192.168.1.66 LEN=40 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=255 ID=23830 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=443 DPT=36446 WINDOW=0 RES=0x00 ACK RST URGP=0 wlan0: deauthenticated ------------- So (to me) it looks like it is having a problem keeping the thing authenticated... Is that usual behavior? I don't know what that tell ya... (newbie here!) Is there anything else you would need to help me? All help is appreciated. Thanks! Michael. |

How about what your PC is Desktop/Laptop, built-in wireless/ USB wireless / wireless card, type of router or network used.
These can all help to narrow down possible reasons and appropriate resolves.

Note that mainline is nearly at 2.6.32. You should use 'Software.openSUSE.org' (http://software.opensuse.org/search) to find the version of compat-wireless that matches your kernel as shown by 'uname -r'. Install the binary, not the source, rpm. |
