Default another noob...another wireless issue!!

i have a hp dv5 1120 and i installed opensuse 11.0 on it. i still have vista though. i ran through the list of things the sticky asks me to do but i seem to have encoutered an issue on step 2:
1)/usr/bin/lsusb gave me
Bus 005 Device 003: ID 03f0:171d Hewlett-Packard Wireless (Bluetooth + WLAN) Interface [Integrated Module]

2)when i went into drmesg|less the entry under bus 5 didnt make any sense to me, this is what it said:
uhci_hcd 0000:00:1d.2: UHCI Host Controller
uhci_hcd 0000:00:1d.2: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 5
uhci_hcd 0000:00:1d.2: irq 16, io base 0x0000a060
usb usb5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
hub 5-0:1.0: USB hub found
hub 5-0:1.0: 2 ports detected
usb usb5: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0001
usb usb5: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumber=1
usb usb5: Product: UHCI Host Controller
usb usb5: Manufacturer: Linux 2.6.25.5-1.1-pae uhci_hcd
usb usb5: SerialNumber: 0000:00:1d.2
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1d.3[C] -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IRQ 18
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:1d.3 to 64

I have already put the required firmware for my WLan, which i downloaded,into the /lib/firmware(according to vista i have the Intel Wireless WiFi link 5100).
What seems to be the prob?
Thanks in advance!!

Default Re: another noob...another wireless issue!!

someone is likely to advise you that 11.0 would be deemed "elderly" by now; 11.1 has been out for a year, and 11.2 is due out before Xmas;

try reading this recent post

wireless not working : all details given as asked in sticky - openSUSE Forums

it seems to cover the background issues

it seems to that for that person, the leading wireless expert lwfinger said "What I suggested is that you try the compat-wireless package for your kernel."

and another expert akhoelth posted on how to try to ensure the correct package for this

Choosing the correct kmp-package for your installation - openSUSE Forums

which was very helpful of him too
