My wireless doesnt work

I have a dell xps 1530. I hate vista so I tried installing Suse. I like suse. i like it alot. I just am having some problems getting some things working. I got the trackpad working. Now im trying to get the wireless working. So my nic is a Broadcom BCM4328. The pci vendor is 14e4 and the product ID is 4328. i was following the guide posted here on how to get this working and at the step where you check what the kernel has to say about my card all i could find was this

I tried to update the firmware. In the Konsole i typed in install_bcm43xx_firmware and it said that my firmware was installed. Im connected to the internet with an old school cat 5 but I need my wireless for school. I am rather new at linux and in-depth computing in general. I was fine with windows xp but after vista i had to draw the line and so with mutany on my mind went over to the dark side (linux, i heard you had cookies). Anyways, im not sure how to procede next. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you. -Cato-

Not too sure,but, i think you need to install the broadcom-wl drivers instead of b43 drivers. lwfinger or Akoellh, will correct me if i'm wrong. Get them here PackMan :: Package details for broadcom-wl install the one relevant to your system

No correction needed, the broadcom hybrid driver is the way to go.

b43 - Linux Wireless: Known PCI devices

Make sure you install not only the respective "broadcom-wl-kmp"-package ("uname -r" and "cat /etc/SuSE-release" will tell you which is the right one) but also the "broadcom-wl" package which takes care of blacklisting ssb and b43.

Thank you for a speedy reply. Well, i went over to the site Packman and tried installing this (broadcom-wl-kmp-default-5.10.91.9_2.6.27.19_3.2-6.pm.13.x86_64.rpm)because i am running 2.6.27.7-9, and that was the closest that matched. and unfortunatly got error messages that said that i had a like 15 failed dependancies.

I know this will work its just a matter of me making it work. Someone recomended i use ndiswrapper, the problem i ran into that was how to install it. Installing something on linux is different then windows and I just got condfused as all hell.

I know that technically windows and linux are similar but that windows GUI does everything for you cause they assume we are all a bunch of big baby's and most of us are. Anyways, Im just gonna keep trying, if anyone knows of a nice tutorial or some kind words that would be nice.

I know that once i get over the linux learning curve i will be fine, but **** im like a fish out of water learning this stuff. I even just took a linux class (this is how pathetic I am) and still cant get it. lol, my profeser didnt really get into the deep stuff and my college did close in the middle of the class. Yea, thats right, my college closed down cause they ran out of money (thank you college of Santa Fe!) and i got 50 credits to go. what a f*n bummer. thanks for all your help my new linux homies.

ok, first things, before we recommend the correct driver, open a console & type

Code:

uname -a

& press enter. then post the results. Also, are you using 11.0 or 11.1 or even 10.3 ? ( opensuse version, that is )

Once again I appreciate the help. Man, I hope I dont have this much troube getting sound to work. lol, thats the next step. Its ok though, cause just in the 2 days that I have had Linux installed on my laptop I have very much enjoyed it.

when you go to this page, PackMan :: Package details for broadcom-wl to make things easier,click on the 1-click install. This should install the necessary bits for you. BTW, did you install from cd or dvd ? as i always recommend a dvd install. If this fails to install, try Akoellh's repo here http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...E_11.1_Update/

I burned the iso image to a dvd. Then i installed it. i had trouble installing it because my laptop mouse would not work, and i didnt plug in a usb mouse. so i might have f'd something up. i also didnt do a checksum.

You need to install the kernel-pae & it's sources,if that's what it's asking for.
1 ) insert the dvd
2 ) open YaST - Software management
3 ) type kernel-pae in the search field
4 ) place a check-mark in the box
5 ) click accept & let it install
6 ) go back to Packmans site & install broadcom-wl via 1-click

or download the default rpm here http://packman.links2linux.org/downl....13.x86_64.rpm & install via cli
