Hi all,

I'm having some wicd problems. I installed it in place of Gnome networkmanager after I had problems with the latter, and wicd had worked well for me in another distribution. But although it could seemingly connect to my (WEP'd) network I couldn't access any sites. So I physically moved my PC to another room with a wired connection and got Network Manager back again. It's now working fine, but wicd won't go away now! Trying to remove it gives this error:

Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: kill: usage: kill [-s sigspec | -n signum | -sigspec] pid | jobspec ... or kill -l [sigspec]
..failed
error: %preun(wicd-1.5.9-8.1.i586) scriptlet failed, exit status 1

---

Any idea what I can do? I've given up trying to get Wicd working (having followed all the instructions in the wiki) and now just want rid in case it conflicts with network-manager.

I was having problems getting Knetworkmanager (either the kde3 or kde4 version) to connect to a wireless router. I could get a connection by going into yast and selecting network devices>network settings then picking the wireless card and selecting edit>next and finally using the scan network button to pick up the required network.
To avoid this I installed wicd by following the instructions on the wiki (I am using openSUSE11.1). To begin with all seemed ok but often the wicd client did not appear on the task bar. This I fixed by editing the menu entry and removing the --no-tray argument so I could start the client and get in in the tray.
I then noticed that I could only connect to the wireless source I had selected in Yast but not any other showing up in wicd even though wicd shows it is connected and has an ip address.
I have uninstalled Knetworkmanager and networkmanager and still I have to select a network via yast to actually browse any sites.
I am at a loss to know where to look for the source of this problem, which is rather annoying! I have used wicd, with no problems, on Kubuntu in the past and like the way it works.
Any pointers to finding a solution would be much appreciated

I'm using Opensuse 11.0 and wicd version 1.6b3 from the BS repo (not the repo from the OP). I am able to connect to my WPA wireless network and also the wired network. However, it seems like the /etc/resolv.conf doesn't get updated correctly when I choose DHCP for my connection.

I have configured Yast as per the wiki, with one exception...I have enabled the "update DNS data via DHCP". When I switch networks, say from home to work (which have different gateways), I am able to get the IP address but the DNS does not get updated. I have to manually run the Yast Network tool to get the updated DNS. After that its all fine and I am able to go to the net.

Any suggestions? Should I downgrade to the older 1.5.9 version?

Thumbs up Re: Please, help to test 'wicd' package...

Hi, just upgraded dell d600 wireless card to an atheros 5008. Using ath9k driver.
This meant an upgrade from opensuse 10.3 to 11.1 to get the hardware working properly.
Network manager gave poor results. Weak signal strength, and loosing connection every minute or so when on battery power, even with powersaving unchecked in yast>network devices>network settings.
Wicd has solved all these problems. Installed via opensuse one click, after installing compat-wireless.
Everything is left default in the application, streaming movies from the ground floor hub to the second floor (3rd floor) with no ill effect on playback.
Auto connects to the various wireless access points I've entered no problem.
Works with https.
I like the tray icon too
Thank you for such a great app.
