Default Need help getting Wireless working

Hello,

I have just installed OpenSUSE 11.0 on my laptop but I need help getting the wireless to work, heres all the information you might need:

1. The make and model of my Wireless Device is:

Well, it's a laptop, Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo li1818 but after a quick google search for the wireless card, it is a sis169u. It also says something about WLAN..

2. How do I find the driver version in use? (any help would be appreciated).

3. No error message, just doesn't have an option for wireless connections. Doesn't show wireless networks..

4. I have tried some instructions for getting wireless to work under Ubuntu, I knew it wouldn't work..

5. There is no trouble shooting guide for me to follow, seems like my laptop is quite rare.

6. OpenSUSE 11.0 - I installed GNOME 2.22 from the DVD Version.

hmm,it's customary to "bump" a post to bring it to others attention if nothing in the original post worked
here's your original post Wireless on Fujitsu-Siemens Laptop - openSUSE Forums

looking for info on this device, i found it very sparse, i reckon you would be better using ndiswrapper & using the windows driver to see if you can get it working

It seems I can use an intel driver as stated on the Fujitsu-Siemens website under my model, the driver is:

Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG

I hope that is of any help.

Edit:
Just read your post about using NDISWrapper, would you be able to point me to a rough guide on using NDISWrapper with OpenSUSE? I have had a look at the stickies but to be honest, I'm really not that clever, I just need a simple guide. Then I would simply be able to replace the driver mentioned on the guide with an intel driver from the fujitsu website?

That being the case, install the iwl/ipw firmware from the install media & then configure the device via YaST - network devices - network settings

I just edited the post above yours ^_^

I feel so stupid, how would I go about installing the iwl/ipw firmware? You mention "install media", where is this?

Edit, I'm up to the hardware dialogue to setup a wireless device now, I just don't know how to install the iwl/ipw firmware, once I've done this, should wireless work?

Thanks for your patiance

The wireless device did not show up in the lspci scan - I think it is USB. What
does lsusb show about your device?

3 how-to's for using ndiswrapper

Ndiswrapper - openSUSE
A Frustrated User's Guide to Linux
http://stuntmanandy.no-ip.biz/Howto%27s.html

by install media i mean the cd/dvd you used to install openSUSE. go to YaST - software management, type ipw or iwl in the search - box & press enter.

Hello Iwfinger,

It is not a USB Device. I have nothing plugged into my USB Port (apart from a mouse), everything is internal. Just a laptop, hope this helps.
