This problem has nothing to do with openSUSE. It is the result of a number of memory leaks in the core of Opera, and an incompatibility between Opera and qt 4.5.3.

Fixing it requires using the 10.01 qt3 version (that also patches the memory leaks) which can be downloaded from the official website, or using the latest qt4 snapshot which is located here.

Again, this isn't a problem with openSUSE, it is a problem specific to Opera. It has been around since the v10 alphas, and I actually had to give up using Opera for a few months before a fix was made.
