Problem with wired connection.

hey guys, today I have just switched over from Ubuntu to openSUSE. After downloading the CD version and installing, and i was horrified to find that wired connection isnt working, this is rather surprising as wired connections usually work. Im using a RTL 8101, i have tried to use YaST's network set up but it still doesnt work. Does this have to do with the fact that im using the 64 bit edition? Hopefully you guys could help me out.

and why is my computer's name linux-ud4x, is there any way to change this?

So what isn't working about it?
No driver/module?
Link/Autonegotiating issue?
DHCP/IP issue?

the network manager just doesnt seem to detect that it is connected. It just remains at the icon with an 'x'.

didnt find a edit button so..
using lspci -v i found out that it is using the r8196 module.

you can't just say: it don't work, how do i fix...well, you CAN say it
but we can't fix it by guessing:

when you say "wired connection" what do you mean? that is, is your RTL
8101 plugged into a cable box, ADSL modem, router, outlet built into
the wall or what?

did you, during install, elect DCHP?

if router, have you configured the router to let you in?

do you need to adjust your (or your router's) firewall?

give us some hints, please..

you can't just say: it don't work, how do i fix...well, you CAN say it
but we can't fix it by guessing:

did it work using the live CD?

no

did it work during install? (there is a place, as far as i recall) to
check networking during install..)

it gave an error. i cant remember exactly what it was but it is more or less about openSUSE unable to find the network interface

did you, during install, elect to update your system? (that is, was

nope

it is directly connected to my router.
I have tested with multiple cables, and other computers.

don't remember doing so.

nope. no MAC filtering what so ever.

do you need to adjust your (or your router's) firewall?

give us some hints, please..

After using the DVD to install, the ethernet connection went fine, but right after updating through YaST the internet connection stopped working again.

i have the same problem!
yesterday was connecting fine by ethernet cable but today nothing...
and i don't know where should i start from.
can i put the configurations back to default since i tried many things and changed a lot?

in network devices i have:
dsl (empty)
isdn (empty)
modem (empty)
network config

in network config:
attansic ethernet controller "not configured"
ethernet network card "dhcp"
wireless wifi link 5100 "dhco"

i'm not even sure if it detects my card correctly...
