OK.
I Just tried it in XP with IE and FF
Both were very slow, IE even slower than FF

I get the same in openSUSE but just FF and Opera

The source code didn't reveal a great deal to me, but I'm no expert. There is plenty of crud in there though and the usual meta-data.

no, it does not make me wonder...it is *not* the first time this has
come up(a microsoft product pump out bit quickly to MS machines and
V_E_R_Y__S_L_O_W_L_Y to those running other software..

reread my posting in this thread from June 11, and that of "AB" on the
12th..

this is not rocket science: the server can see when you are on MS and
when you are not, and it can decide how fast you get your bits.

the folks in Redmond will get a big smile if you abandon open source
in order to read trailer life..

yes they care....pick and read as you wish:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Steve+Balmer+on+Linux

i'm not offended...were you on the IT scene in the early '90s?

i was, and you may call me anything wish, including paranoid and it
will not change the facts..

like, you do know (don't you) that M$ was tried and *convicted* of
monopolistic bully practices in the market place designed to shut out
other vendors..

well, read this:

In an attempt to get an outbreak of sweetness and light (hopeless, I know), may I make the following points
  • It could be, but probably isn't, an explicit microsoft conspiracy. Its more likely 'cockup' than 'conspiracy'; I'd bet no testing has been done on various lower-market-share browsers and configurations and that has allowed something nasty to creep in rather than a deliberate attempt to sabotage anything (but I could be wrong)
  • when its running slowly, could you check how quickly name look ups occur, please? So 'dig www.this.that', and preferably do a similar thing with something that runs at a reasonable speed (google?).
  • does it also run slowly if you get something from cache (eg, with the back button)?
  • and what about a traceroute to one of the sites in question

and, are you really sure that you have thoroughly excised all references to IPV6? Having a mix of IPV6 and IPV4 seems to be the most common ways of having networking work slowly these days. And what about something untoward in nsswitch.conf? Can you post that, please?

I don't know how to di traceroute

I wonder if there is a way to fool the M$ servers into thinking I'm on a WinXP box.
I've used Win4Lin and Virtual Box they don't fool em.
