Hello Everyone,

I have 2 comps at home

This one is running SUSE11, other is Vista Home Premium.

They share an interent connection thru Belkin wireless router and usb adaptor.

Is it possible to setup a home network to share files, drives, printers etc between two comps.

Your help is highly appreciatedd.

Not sure about vista printers and file sharing, home versions can be
crippled. But you could use winscp to transfer files from the vista
machine to the linux machine. Printers and files on the linux machine
should be visible by cups/samba from the vista machine.

I was reading thru some documents.

Just that none fits my requiremen.

I already have a internet connection share setup. Linux machine (Suse 11.0 64-bit) is connected directly to the internet connection share router. I did not do any configuration for this machine to connect to the router.

The Vista machine is connected to internet thru wireless adaptor. After installing the drivers all i had to do was provide vista machine with the name of the router and the password, and it also connected to the internet. Now I want to enable file sharing between the two computers. So I can tfr files without physical connection between the two. Also I have printer attached to linux machine and certain peripherals on both macchines that I want to share.

Is it possible.

Please advice.

Ok, I try to help as good as I can...
printer: I just created a new network printer in windows (xp). Somewhere in the dialog you can enter the URI of the printer attached to linux. In my case it looks like this:

ipp://192.168.1.1:631/printers/Brother

Note, its ipp not http.
To find out the name of your queue enter in a web browser on your linux machine. This is the CUPS webinterface. In the printers tab you will find the name of the queue.

filetransfer: A common way is to setup a samba server. That gives you a "windows network". You can do the basic setup with yast. Once it runs and you have some shared folders you can access linux shares from vista. But only, if you changed that lsa registry key in vista.
When you have shared folders on your vista machine, you can try to find them by typing

remote:/

in e.g. Konqueror. Don't know much about Gnome...

There is no need with current Samba releases to edit any VISTA registry entries.

Samba can allow you to share printers & files. To get started see the following

If you encounter any problems with Samba just post your questions/problems here
