Default Connecting Network Printer - How?

Hi all,

Well, today is will be the first time I am going to connect one OpenSuse11 machine into a 15 Windows workstation environment.

That is not the problem, today the particular network has one of those photocopiers that doubles as a network ethernet printer.

I have never setup one for OpenSUSE, what can read up on setting up for one of these?

Thanks ina advance,

Heeter

Your right, I completely forgot to check swernda's site. That is where I get my other networking howto's.

There should be something there for network printers.

Thanks a million, Delta

I used to install those networked copiers... in a pinch, you can set them up
as an HP LaserJet 5, using lpd type network connection.

I've found that with SuSe though, if you know the IP address of the unit, it
can probe and figure out what it is, and come up with the proper drivers
too. Most of those big machines are PCL/PS compatible, and also have their
own proprietary drivers too. (Ricoh!!)

I do know the IP address of this Printer, so it will be helpful.

How do I get OpenSuse11 to probe the IP address?

Thanks for the heads up

You may want to investigate the CUPS printer management utility.
Point your web browser here: http://localhost:631/

Also you didn't mention the type of printer, but
if you need help with the Docucentre's/Phasers from Xerox
or HP color laserjets let me know.

Hey. It's me again.

The network printer in question is a Canon ImageRunner400s.

I point the browser to: http://localhost:631/ and I see the CUPS configuration tool. There is so many configuration variations, I don't know where to start.

I do know that this printer's IP address is 192.168.0.5., and the Windows machines pick it up as //IR400s. It is setup on a "LAN manager Port" on the Windows machines.

Can't see anything about Linux setup on Canon site.

Maybe I can mount it through smb, like I did with the Windows Shares folders. I did configure Samba on this workstation.

Thanks

Heeter
