Question Infos about X windows

Hello all,

I'd like to find some information about X Windows (architecture, protocols... etc). Could you suggest some sites/manuals where I can find that.
Also I'd like to know if there are some free software to install on Windows to connect to Linux (other then Xming)

sorry, can't help as i know very little about Redmond's OS..

anyway, i think you need to define what you mean by "install on
Windows to connect to Linux"..

like, is 'connecting' through the internet via FTP okay?...or, maybe
HHTP? or TCP/IP? or SSH? or do you wanna run a wire direct from a
windows box to a linux box? what kinda wire from what kind of
attachment point (serial, parallel, USB, firewire, ethernet--WHAT??)?
how about a sneaker-net connection?

exactly what are you trying to accomplish??

As my desktop computer I have a Windows box and I am connected to the internal network (wired ethernet).I 'd like to connect to several Linux/Unix boxes so that I can run several application, manage them but not from console.

i've never used it but i have heard some microsofties shout praises
about Webmin <http://www.webmin.com/>

if i'm not mistaken it will allow you to administer any Linux/Unix
machine using any browser running on any computer/OS anywhere in the
world that can route to the box you wanna control..(of course, the
target machine must be willing and set up to allow your control..)

VNC, similar to remote desktop. Works for both windows and Linux.
