k3B creates very nice FLAC's for me. And easy as easy can be. And mp3 and ogg and whatever.

I use Ripper X and i bought a copy of Nero Linux. I thought for $12.00 it was a pretty good buy. It works very well.

As we can see once again: Choice, we have choice. Pick what you LIKE, what SUITS your needs. Though I must say, that the appearance of Nero for Linux in this thread disappoints me. It's a bit like working with Windows on a linux machine. Not to speak of the benchmarks done over the years that show that k3b does a much better job than Nero.

Well, this thread was meant as a survey of what's out there and why people like it -- and I think it has done its job very well. I, for one, have a much better idea now ... Cheers to all!

I tried opening an audio CD as a KIO slave through Krusader (I think it was audiocd:/ but I'm not sure) and besides the track list it also gave me thse directories: mp3, flac, ogg, wav. In there, all the tracks were presented as mp3/etc. files, already named properly and everything. I presume copying one of these files to the hard drive would start the ripping mechanism, it seemed a very cool idea to me but I didn't actually try it
![]() Anyone knows if that way works fine (i.e. produces good quality files) and if there is any way to tweak the encoding parameters? My computer is a bit of a mess right now so I can't try it out myself
