Default kernel id & Grub

I'm not getting any help with a former post Can't shut down or access yast - openSUSE Forums
If Suse update's the kernel and Ubuntu has Grub I can't boot to the new Suse kernel. How do I get the new kernel id into Ubuntu's menu.lst.
