Id like to share any log, but how to find it? There is nothing on the USB except the dvd.iso file.
I have another laptop with SUSE 11.0 on which have DVD.
Is there a noob-manual to make the USB bootable and with the .iso on?
But its seems to be unneccesary steps since DOCF up here manged with WXP + USB + .iso-file only?

Hi,
There is an excellent new utility that will let you install your openSUSE.iso image on a USB flash drive (stick) called Unetbootin. You can get it on Sourceforge.net at the URL here:

SourceForge.net: Files

Just download the sources and follow the instructions.

Ty for the tip!
I tried UNetbootin - Homepage and Downloads, and it have two very good advantages:
1. Nowadays (not by erlier versions) easy to build a bootable USB from a .iso-file of SUSE DVD.
2. It gives the possibility to install also if USB-booting fails, since openSUSE11_0_LOCAL.exe is on the DVD-USB U just made.

But,it have some problems:
Regardless of if I use "openSUSE11_0_LOCAL.exe" and install it within WXP,
or if U let the selfbooting USB control by itself, same error occurs:
Loading /ubnkern
Invalid or korrupt kernel image

If I use the menu of UNetbootin, I can also use: "linux", but after somewhile, I have to find "the source dir".

Hmmmm how can I find where on my USB, the source dir is..?
I pic sdb1 as USB and then have to put "source dir"
/ as I think it would be the best guess gives also: "No repository found"
Is that not the on the USB?

I now even compared the contents of all my USB-stick with the content of the perfectly working SUSE11-DVD.
Seems to be identical except that some 6-7 extra ubn-files are present on the stick.
I tried to remove them, in order to get exactly the same.
But then I get:
SYSLINUX 3.71 2008-07-31 EBIOS Copyright.........H. Peter Anvin
Could not find kernel image: linux
boot: _

So....why is this so difficult????
What should I write at boot?
If the content really is identical, shouldnt the stick behave like a DVD?
And if not, how can I check the difference and correct it?

Update:
OK, I finally got it working:
Followed this:
Installation without CD - openSUSE

and ftp:d from repository the initrd + linux as:
* If you have downloaded the source (mirrored), do the following:
Quote:
# cp /path/to/source/boot/loader/initrd /boot/inst-initrd
# cp /path/to/source/boot/loader/linux /boot/inst-linux

* If you have downloaded the ISO files to your hard drive you will need to download initrd and linux from an Installation Repository mirror serparately. To do this go to the Mirrors Released Version page, find a mirror in your country, and click on the "Installation Repository" link for the mirror. Navigate to the /boot folder, then the folder for your architecture, then the folder /loader. Inside this folder, find and download initrd and linux. Save these to your /boot directory on your local machine and rename them inst-initrd and inst-linux respectively.
So right now installation runs well on the Aspire One...will come back with more updates...

But what I cant understand;
Why on earth are these two files not already on the /boot directory of the DVD....?
And why are they not needed when booting the DVD, but only now when Im running it all from an USB-stick???

Hi magnusgus,

I am facing the same issue as you. I have copied the two files to my usb memory stick in the /boot directory.

When Linuxrc asks me to enter the hard disk partition, I do not know what should go in here. What did you enter there?

I presume the source directory is "/boot"

Can you post exactly what you entered to get openSUSE to install please?
