Hey all,
I got a weird issue that I am not sure how to resolve. I have an HP 6715b running OpenSuse 11.1 64bit. Everytime I unplug the power from the laptop to run off the battery, the screen goes black. I am unable to get back to a normal screen without rebooting the machine. Has anyone else seen this issue or have an idea on how to fix it? Thanks, Dave |

can you try to run the development release, maybe it gets better drivers and fixes the ACPI/power management issues in your laptop.

Which desktop environment are you using (KDE4, Gnome...)? I remember an old thread on this topic. The OP claims to have fixed the problem relating to a problematic ATI driver/chipset. However, they didn't post the solution
And another here.Edit: Wanted to share this discussion with you. Looks like it was a widespread problem with this model. In particular, this post by Mirjam Tesser may be of interest Quote:

Hey all,
Thanks for the help on this one. I am currently using Gnome. I don't remember this being an issue with 11.0 although it's been a while since I have run that version. I don't really want to download the new development version and install just to see if my issue goes away. That is a large time commitment. I am hoping to get this resolved so I can use the laptop and OpenSuse to do some work. Although I may have too as a last resort or go back to 11.0 Thanks for the help again, Dave |

Hay there,
I have the same laptop with the same problem... kistej is correct that removing the ATI driver solves the issue, but there is an alternative that I have picked up and am willing to live with. Once you either plug/unplug the power to the laptop your screen goes black. Now press CTRL+ALT+F1 to switch to terminal mode, and then without even logging in, press CTRL+ALT+F7 to switch back to GUI mode... Works every time for me, and saved having to remove the ATI drivers... Hope that you come right. Dredger. |
