If you're using Gnome, the network manager applet has a mobile broadband panel that works for my 3G.
If you're using KDE, then the Modem configurator in Yast (network devices) will do the job provided you first install these RPMs: ppp, udev, smpppd, wvdial, Kinternet and use this guide: Wireless broadband in Suse/openSUSE for Bigpond Next G Network (HSDPA-enabled bp3-usb). [it's only a guide -- modify it for your modem] [Don't use the guide for Gnome, use the NM applet for Gnome.]
