Default Switching to Battery?

Hi,

i have a Basic Question. What is happenning on a Linux Notebook when i disconnect mains power and switch to battery?
I mean which skripts are running? who checks the state? Who changes the powermanagement profile?

PS: ACPI is enabled.

Which desktop environment are you using? What is not working for you?

KDE3 uses kpowersave frontend (via powersaved)
KDE4 uses PowerDevil
Not sure about Gnome, as I don't use it (but it does have its own power management app).

They depend on information provided by HAL (hald-addon-acpi).
