Toshiba Satellite A100 - microphone problems

I find that the microphone does not work in Skype with my laptop. Has anyone else had experience with the Toshiba Satellite A100 in this area?

have the same problem - toshiba L305 - mic doesn't work with skype (don't know if works with anything ...)
I have tried the built-in mic on the front and an external one, have tried to level up all possible volumes - none works

os: suse 11.0,
soundcard: 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller

please help ...
