Brightness reduces on opening mplayer

Hi all,
I have got opensuse 11.0/kde3.5 on my Dell Inspiron 1420 notebook.It was going all well until I got the mplayer. When opening the application the brightness of the lcd screen reduces all of a sudden.I have to increase it with the KPowersave.... (because The Fn + Up key cannot increase the brightness above 6, while i require it to be 8.)

I have got quite bored of doing this job.. can anybody help me out?

I have the following misunderstanding:

> powersave -K
Current brightness level: 2.
> powersave -k 5
Brightness level set to 5. <--The brightness level aint really change, but powersave notifies me of the opposite.
> powersave -K
Current brightness level: 2.

However, adjusting britness via slider in KPowersave works fine.
