Hi. I used Suse10.1,10.3 on my previous laptop. This month I bought new one Hp compaq 6515b and installed Suse11.
At first I installed x64 version, but soonly I found after 5 or 10 minutes and ever shorter. The computer hang totoaly without notice me. Sometimes I found the application is running and I can move my mouse, but nothing is clickable. And keyboard is not functional. After few seconds, the whole system hang and I should restart my laptop by power it down. I think maybe is the x64's problem. Last night I reinstall suse11-x86 version. Still have the problem. I should say Suse does good job on system configuration. When I use Suse10.3, it took a week to bring up my intel wireless network. But with Susu11, it makes my broadcom wireless works with a simply command and it download the firm automatically. Thanks. But my problem is how can I use Suse11 on my laptop? I installed windows XP and 2003 server on my laptop too. They are working fine. Don't know why, only Suse(or Linux?) have problem. Can anyone give me a suggestion what should I do? Or otherwise the only way I can do is switch to FC or other distribution to see if they are working. Here is my hardware configuration: CPU: AMD Turion(tm) 64 x2 mobile MEM: 4G Video: Ati Radeon x1250 network: broadcom 643? (wired/wireless) harddisk: ST9160821AS audio: SoundMax Integrated Digital HD Audio Thanks. |

Is there a common task running?
I have not seen this happen on a dv6772 or dv5-1004? Do you have the fglrx driver loaded? Can you post a copy of dmesg? |

Thanks for quick replying.
I haven't install ati driver. I searched the forum and see some one add 'acpi_os="Linux"' when boot. I added this. Don't know does it help. At least now I can reply the thread here. Here is the output I use dmsg. Seems I should split it into 2 replies. Looks like your having the problem with riserfs. There are several bug reports about system lockups when riserfs is used. Can you reformat the partitions to ext3 and see if that fixes the stablility?

Thanks. cbr600.
Yes. I format my harddisk with ext3 and reinstall suse11_x64 version. Now everything seems ok. I have been using it for an hour and it doesn't hang. Before it is VERY unstalbe. Great Suse, I am fans of it. Thank you cbr600. |
