Question Dell C521 no sound/video with SuSE 11.1

I had everything working under SuSE 10.2 except for the mouse hanging up once in a while. I downloaded 11.1 64 bit and let it update. Now I have NO sound, even though kmix seems to be running and mplayer no longer works. Any joy out there?

Please be certain that you have alsa-firmware installed.

You could try working your way through the openSUSE audio-troubleshooting guide. In particular, for judging if you have sound functioning, please use all of the recommended speaker tests (typically not all of them will work on any one PC). SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

If that guide is too complex, and you need some coaching, then post here, and I'll give you some specific commands to run, that will provide you (and hence provide me) more information on the specifics of your PC's hardware and openSUSE software sound configuration.
