I can't get this sound card to work,

Anyone able to offer advice?, fresh install.

Check to see if your sound is switched ON in BIOS.

Also, install "alsa-firmware" and see if that helps.

You could try working your way through the openSUSE audio troubleshooting guide: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

I'm currently on vacation - will be back in a week or so.

So if you are still having problems, post and in a week or less I will try to give you some help.

I think i've only made it worse. Now I appear to be missing libasound?

Can you copy and paste the following into a gnome terminal or a kde konsole, and post the output, so that we can see what you have installed?
rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep pulse
rpm -q libasound2
uname -a
cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound

Its not normally this difficult, so something unusual has taken place.

Note - I am still on vacation and will be for some more days, so my responses may be slow in coming.
