Well, I know you've tried hard to get the fglrx driver working with your card, but I've had a look at this phoronix forums thread which suggest that no 3D linux support yet exists. Lots of similar threads around if you search. This is a waiting game. Stick with the radeonhd driver for now. I'd take your problem up directly with AMD, and see what they have to say.

All I can suggest is to take a look at this page on the ati wiki:
SUSE/openSUSE - cchtml.com

Make sure that you have uninstalled the old driver both in yast2 > software and with the commands:
cd /usr/share/ati
sh ./fglrx-uninstall.sh

I think the installation isn't working because the old driver is still there which is why it is giving a warning.

Here's the official list of prerequisites, from ATI's Release Notes:
Code:
The ATI Catalyst™ Linux software suite no longer provides precompiled Kernel
Modules; all installations require GCC compiler and kernel-headers or kernel-source
in order to enable 2D and 3D acceleration.

For best performance and ease of use, ATI recommends the following:

Kernel module build environment
o Kernel source code include either the Kernel Source or Kernel Headers packages

The RPM utility should be installed and configured correctly on your system, if you intend to install via RPM packages

The following packages must be installed in order for the Catalyst™ Linux driver to install and work properly:
XFree86-Mesa-libGL
libstdc++
libgcc
XFree86-libs
fontconfig
freetype
zlib
gcc
I did not have freetype, and my fglrx worked fine. So this list may be a bit conservative.

And they say not to use sax2:
Code:
Note: On Novell's openSUSE, SLED and SLES operating systems
running “sax2” or “sax2 -r” on the console overwrites the X.Org
configuration file xorg.conf, reverting changes made by running
“aticonfig --initial”. As a result subsequent X session may start up
using the open source Radeon on X-Vesa graphics drivers instead of the proprietary ATI Linux Graphics Driver.

Solution: Do not use Sax2 when the proprietary Linux Graphics
Driver is installed. Instead configure all display parameters using
the Catalyst Control Center--Linux Edition or the aticonfig command line interface.

I will have to second item 6. I can't count the number of
installations where is was fine after the ATI proprietary install and
the instant sax2 hit it; video was ruined. Similar issues with nvidia
proprietary installs.

Thanks to all for the threads.

I undertook a radical solution. I replace this f.. ATI card with new NVidia 9500 GT and installed the corresponding glx driver from the first attempt. I connected an additional TV with Xinerama. Everything works more than fine !

The moral of my story is - never buy ATI...

Thanks again.
