ATI DRIVER - OPENSUSE 11.1 - black screen

So, I've seen this problem when googling, ati troubleshooting page here on opensuse pages, but I just can't do it anymore, I had 32bit version from beginning with no problems, and here I can't say what worked out of the box, but this is not a problem, I'm not a windows user but three days have passed and I know it has to be simple but I just can't solve it

Let's put it

Opensuse 11.1 64bit
ATI RADEON HD3200 - integrated

So I've downloaded ati .run package like I always had for my 32bit version, of course this time I've downloaded 64bit one but for a non intergrated 3200.
So it came to a place where it should start with kde loading but it just freezes, black screen and I can just pres alt-crtl-delete for restart. But I somehow configured it and it worked, fglrx drivers were loaded but it was slow.

After that I just ran right version installation over previos one and just can't make it right.
Sax won't help me no mather what configuration I set.
Then I uninstalled those drivers (/usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh) , and installed them again from terminal, just to be sure and nothing, tried everything, loking ati install log, perfect, mseg no problems..

Now just want to get radeonhd drivers back, I put original xorg.conf but there are no modules loaded for radeon driver if that's the care because I don't know what is the problem.

If I put original file, I also get black screen but actually, only monitor doesn't show anything, everything else work "fine". I can blindly switch to reminal, logon there, and reboot from there if nothing else so that's why I supposed to be a module problem.

So I will install fglrx drivers and make them work,
but now I just wan't to see something, and work normally,
because for instance when I get into runlevel 3 and use sax it always freesezes my screen trying to start x server (of course, not with -a argument),

I mean, It has to be 64bit version problem, like it loads 32bit dri module (/usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so) so you have to replace it with one from 64bit.
Done that, nothing

In 32bit version I make all the same things (not all, it works after few commandline optins, like it should) and here nothing.

So just, how to get everything back to beginning, I'll start from there, beginning, I have xorg.conf from start, how to get everything else?

First thing if you have uninstalled the propriety fglrx is use YaST to
unconditionally update all things mesa that you have installed.

IIRC, of the top of my head the ATI`s use their own and the un-install is
supposed to put the others back, I have had a similar prob where the ATI
installed was b0rked and left the wrong mesa files so a forced install
replace them back with the originals and all was well with the world+dog

Not saying it will work for you^ but will not hurt.

hi.. i read about this problem so much, but i not solved the same on my HP.. i am a noob to linux.. but i am reading and learning.. just registered on this site to ask some help.. i installed opensuse 11.1 on my HP tx2530, works fine but cant enable 3D, to turn on display effects.. bulit in ATI mobility radeon 3200.. i tryed drivers from ATI went trough by the instructions founded on the internet, but i cant intall them properly.. after rebooting i just have black screen, and i cant modify anything in xorg.xonf, i dont know yet how to do that, so after reinstalling i had a new chance to try that again.. no success.. i reinstalled the system 5 times, and dont know how tu install a good working linux on my laptop, first i tryed Ubuntu, but there was a problem on th install, so i downloaded opensuse, because i read about the compatibility.. i dont know what to do.. need a find next distro, or download a 32 bit version???

I just installed the latest ATI driver on my Dell Studio 1537 laptop which has radeon 3200 hardware. 64-bit openSUSE-11.1, KDE-4.3.2.

It went very smooth.

But you need to follow the guidance here: ATI/The Hard Way - openSUSE

KEY, which I do not see in the posts above (but it IS mentioned in the URL), is the absolute necessary step to remove the rpm with "fglrx" in the rpm name (with root permissions). ...

rpm -e $(rpm -qa '*fglrx*')

There are other less elegant ways to do this. If one does NOT do that PRIOR to trying to build the ATI proprietary driver, then it WILL fail.

Then after building the driver, another rpm with "fglrx" will have been built that one must install.

And only then is one ready to try to configure their xorg.conf with sax2 (or what ever program one wishes to use for configuring xorg.conf)

Edit - I'm suffering from a killer head ache and bad cough - sorry, I don't have the energy to give more detail.

u made my day.. i dont know exactly what was the problem, but 3D is working now..i also installed some required 32-bit packages, and its works now, so i can try to solve my SB and WLAN problem.. thank you..
