You will see these artifacts on the KDE boot up. There is a discussion in the beta group along these lines. I have the same probs with an nvidia and 2 ati cards 64bit and 32 bit, if I disable the fade in and fade out it does get a bit better and if I disable all effects then the login screen and KDM work fine.
