Is this on a laptop or a desktop? If it's a laptop, does it enable when your on battery? -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 (x86_64) Kernel 2.6.27.37-0.1-default up 2 days 10:33, 2 users, load average: 0.10, 0.12, 0.07 GPU GeForce 8600 GTS Silent - CUDA Driver Version: 190.18 |

It's a desktop. I always thought that 8800GT has more than one performance levels and here nada, if i am not mistaken then lowering the frequency will lower power usage right?

Mmmh I've the same card, but don't have the NVidia driver installed so I'm afraid I can't see. (Don't really plan on installing them before 11.2 is out and NVidia has added the drivers to their repository)
My Laptop equipped with a 9600M however has 4 different power levels (numbered 0-3). Which can be found under NVidia X Server Settings > GPU 0 > Powermizer, it lists: Code:
Performance level NV Clock Memory Clock 0 169 MHz 100 MHz 1 275 MHz 250 MHz 2 400 Mhz 400 MHz 3 500 MHz 400 MHz And yes it's quite similar to Cool'n'Quiet / whatever intel named the thing for CPU's. It downclocks the GPU (and the videocards RAM) to lower the power usage. (and heat output) I am using the (latest?) Beta drivers though, 190.32.

Hmmm, i was thinking about flashing the card with an 9800GT card as it is simply a rembranded 8800GT and it is supposed to have more power levels than 8800GT, i solved my issue with underclocking the card but i'd like to have it automatic and also i am greatly surprised that a graphic card which is A LOT more power hungry does not have it except mobile versions
