Modem problems Opensuse 11.1 - SEK550i and Huawei PCMCIA

Hello, this is a tricky thing I guess.
I try to set up mobile internet EDGE with Opensuse and provider Belgium base.
I tried in the shop with them, and I came to a connect .......that now I am not able to reproduce.
The internet on the K550i connects to the network (symbol in the display of the phone) but does not deliver data to the notebook via the usb cable (dials, connects.....does not deliver?).
The pcmcia modem would be the better choice but when I set it up in yast as a modem I have tried so far to init strings and the log tells me always that the init string is wrong.
The two strings I am using are:
a) the one that attributes Opensuse in automatic - AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0

b) the one proposed by wind italy (the original distributor of the card - the card is "free" that is with no provider restrictions): AT&FE0V1X1&D2&C1S0=0


The whole setting with apn and so on is proven correct. It is just that now it does not accept my init strings. Saying init string incorrect, modem not set to read write (if I do well recall). Neither in one configuration, nor in the other. The strings are given in the second line of configuration. (First is: ATZ).
Any idea to share?

As it seams I am getting old.
There WAS one thing missing:
you need to put the following line into the dial prefix:
"CGDCONT=1","IP","gprs.base.be"
Then finally it works (with either init-string).

And to say that I knew that 2 years ago.......I just messed up the place were to put it. Sorry.

And happily reopened.
Now, for one time it works and then everything is gone.
First:
The settings of modem in yast are irreversible. Any change of dialer prefix or other necessitates the complete elimination of the settings and the new recognition of the modem. Annoying but feasible. Anybody else experienced this?

The internet connection itself works. The phone for example charges with opera mini without problems.

As mentioned before, there is no change even if you use the other init string.

As I mentioned befor: with the Huawei you can use the networkmanager. But then normaly there is no reaction at all. If you open the yast for modem recognition or if you try with wvdial before and then close it, then open the networkmanager...1 time in a thousand the thing works.....shows connect.......but either then does not connect or does not transmit data.
And then: does anybody know what "stdin not read/write and $MODEM not set"
means?
The K550i, if setup, is connecting. But no data is received. The logfile (of Wvdial via kinternet) is the following:

Maybe it is a IP problem? The line in black of the log is the only that seems fishy to me.

When you try to connect with networkmanager there is the indication of /dev/usb0: no carrier.
No gprs connection is offered to setup. In case you try to setup a new connection through /dev/usb0 it is created as a Lan connect.

I am very puzzled. This seems another of the 11.1 problems? I am using KDE 3.5.10
With former versions of openSUSE I always connected well and had no problems. I would really like to get this work. Otherwise I think I will have to shift back to 11.0.
Please give any advice, even if it seems to you insignificant. I have to get this thing going....

I don't know if I should call that solved but for 11.1 reality I guess this is solved:
workaround
you eliminate all the modems
you accept the huawei as dev/modem
You put into the last line in the detailed view under regular dial expressions the CGDCONT,IP,gprs.base.be without gimmiks and you HAVE to do that in the detailed view, otherwise it will simply not work.
You will now setup the provider .....
then it will connect.
But when you shutdown the next time it will not work anymore. To make it work again you have to chose in networkmanager the appropiate gprs connection you did set up. Nothing will happen. Now you open Yast, choose network....modem.....and while it searches for the modem the connection will be established.
Now you can shutdown Yast. The connect will be stable.
If somebody has a suggestion how to make it less complicated he is welcome. But I think with 11.1 this is it.
