wait! are you saying that it *is* possible for Evolution running on
Ubuntu can sync with M$ WinMob6 but it is not possible for Evolution
running on openSUSE and KDE??

that just makes no sense, at all..
Well, all we have so far is someone blogging that he managed to sync contacts, with some difficulty. Nothing about syncing calendar events or tasks...

my best advice would be to take your pick:

1. buy a Mobile 6.0 driven PDA and spend LOTs of time trying to work
around all the roadblocks programmed in to force folks to use it only
with Genuine M$ Software, or

2. buy an open source PDA known to work and play well with Mac, Linux,
BeOS, BSD *and* Wind0z..

Good advice but too late... WM seemed a good idea at the time when running Windows...

so, the choice becomes:

1. let the trap keep you locked in (because it is easier, even if MUCH
more costly), or

2. use your PDA as good as you can without putting any more money into
the Ultimate Redmond Trap Maker, while *planning* your next purchases..

see, we can all vote with our pocketbook...and, the more that do the
more likely the Ultimate Revenue Stream Corporation will see fit to
allow their stuff to work and play well with our stuff..

You haven't read my earlier messages. I'm no longer "trapped in", I use Funambol to sync with Outlook running in Virtualbox. Once the KDE4 Remember the Milk plasmoid is working again, I'll probably be able to ditch Outlook Calendar altogether with a combination of RTM and Google Calendar.
I certainly don't boot Vista any more to sync my PDA...

and follow the thread while still locked in.....get'em to think) ok? ;-)

I wish it were that simple. I don't know of any device that syncs properly with KDE's PIM suite, Evolution or Thunderbird / Lightning, I'm talking about syncing e-mails, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes. If one exists then please let me know as I'm just beginning to look for a new device.

I don't want to sync through the cloud so any solution that involves using google calendar or funambol as a conduit is not suitable.

I'm hoping the Nokia N900 with Maemo is going to provide a solution as that is as close to a Linux desktop on a phone that you can get at the moment.

I think this has been a big weakness with Linux in general not being able to provide an efficient and reliable way of syncing PDA's / smartphones with it the 3 main PIMs in use.

understand your point but add:

when i talk to the the President on the TV, he doesn't answer me; i
can't get my refrigerator to dry my clothes properly; my car can't
carry as much sand as my truck; and every time i try to unscrew a bolt
with a hammer it goes all sour..

*but*, the day i can do all of those things i will expect to find a
Micro$oft powered PDA which will (out of the box) sync email,
calendar, contacts, tasks and notes with the Sony-Apple Playstation
running Linux embedded in my China made limo..

It will probably need a kernel update.
