Default Zotac GF8200-C-E Nvidia Driver Issues

Hi,

I'm having issues installing the nVidia driver for my Zotac GF8200-C-E motherboard (integrated GF8200). When I install from the nvidia repository (I think that's what it's called) X doesn't work on the next boot. When I try to install the driver manually it wants the kernel sources, but after doing "zypper install kernel-source linux-kernel-headers" it says:

Quote:
ERROR: The kernel header file
'/lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/build/include/linux/kernel.h' does not
exist. The most likely reason for this is that the kernel source path
'/lib/modules/2.6.27.7-9-default/build' is incorrect. Please make sure
you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they
are properly configured; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure
you have the 'kernel-source' or 'kernel-devel' RPM installed. If you
know the correct kernel source files are installed, you may specify the
kernel source path with the '--kernel-source-path' command line option.
My xorg.conf:

Post result of

Code:
zypper lr -d
Chances are your kernel and source versions do not match.
If your repos are ok, running
Code:
zypper up
should sort the issue

Hi,

I didn't get a chance to try out your suggestions right away since I got sick the day after I submitted this. Your second command got the nvidia installer working - I almost can't believe it was that simple. I was a little nervous after Zotac told me linux isn't supported on that board. I'm assuming they meant they don't do support for linux.

Now however I find that my sound doesn't work (I'm assuming it wasn't working before, but I hadn't tried it). I know nothing at all about sound on linux and have no idea where to start. Any suggestions? I went to "Sound" under the Control Center and tested every device, but none of them output sound on my speakers (they're plugged into the correct port, I had them working on my previous distro)

Ideally you start a new thread with Sound in the title. Here is the troubleshooter: SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE
