I always just install the video card driver from the manufacturer, to get the best 3D support, and it always supports everything (highest I've gone so far is 1920x1200). At least this is true for NVidia and ATI video cards. I don't bother with SAX on that since it only does generic displays.

I suspect the user may have installed the wrong driver - I see some 1-click options installing both nvidia 01 e 02 driver flavors (not sure about the names, as I'm in the ATI machine right now). But yes, this user express himself as if he was addressing another OS's support line ![]() OTOH, after checking if he installed the right driver for his card, a simple sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia would solve his problem. |

Three weeks ago I installed opensuse 11.1 for my daughter. It is using a cheap nvidia gforce fx5500 on a 32" samsung lcd t.v. After installing the driver, it detected the t.v default screen resolution which is 1360x768. I tested it on a nvidia 7300 gt and got the resolution also. Base from the op, I am not sure now if the t.v is wide screen. The measurement is x=15.5" and y=27.5" diagonal dimension is 32". Can someone confirm if this is a wide screen or not because opensuse is using the right resolution.

There are some models of graphics cards and/or monitors that simply do not work well from a LiveCD. I have one desktop machine in particular that I consistently have all sorts of trouble with. It would boot to a black screen with a box floating around saying something on the order of resolution out of sync. I'd have to play with all sorts of boot options just to see something. openSUSE was almost a "no-go" on that machine, but after a lot of trial and error, I found a parameter that worked (just enough to get the installer working so it can detect the proper resolution). That was a while back, so I don't recall what I did without consulting my notes.
Even now I have problems when I boot the partedMagic LiveCD on that machine. I have to choose the "Alternate Xserver" option. For some reason, Debian works with the hardware. openSUSE does not. That doesn't make one distro better than another. It all has to do with what was included on the LiveCD. My point is, though, that it all depends on what is included on the LiveCD and how it interacts with specific hardware. openSUSE works great with no tinkering on some of my machines and not on others. I can understand a person's frustration, but for me it was worth the time it took to get openSUSE to install so that I could enjoy the benefits once it's installed. |

Hello all,
I noticed version 11.2 doesn't support my Samsung SyncMaster 2233sw widescreen monitor. My graphics card is a NVidia GeForce 7300GS. What are the odds this will be fixed for the final release? I am a casual linux user and I have sticked to openSuse for some time now, would hate to migrate to another distro. Thanks |

Also, when you state 11.2 doesn't support your Samsung SyncMaster 2233sw widescreen monitor with a NVidia GeForce 7300GS graphics card ..... what can you tell us about that SyncMaster 2233 ? ie doesn't support it at all ? or does not support some resolutions? What graphic drivers did you try? vesa? the openGL "nv" ? the proprietary "nvidia" ? |
