Default org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply

Hello,
I'm quite new to Suse. I've gotten an older machine to play with Linux. Last night, all was working fine. Today, after check emails and such, I ended up having some problems and was unable to get to my hard drive thru File System - to the upper right, the circle of dots just rotates. All else seems to be working fine. The system can get to the hard drive (I'm typing this forum entry on it), but I don't seem to be able to.

The only thing that I remember doing this morning was when I was checking my Yahoo email. Something was having a problem and so a pop up asked if I wanted to disable Beagle - I said yes. Not sure if that was the problem - what I've read seems to indicate no.

I first noticed the problem when I inserted a thumb drive in the USB port. I got the following error.

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Now that I think of it, I messed with the Screen Resolution last night. But that wouldn't make sense either.

I've also had problems with a DVD drive - the door wouldn't open via the eject on a window or even the eject button on the front of the dvd device. I've plugged it in and out several times - currently it is unplugged.

I'd like to recover the work I did last night. I've wondered if I simply need to reinstall Suse 11.1, but I'm not sure if that will write over my data area. I've considered trying to unhook the drive and plugging it into a windows machine to try to recover my work.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

After I finished my post, I kept poking around. I've found my files using GEdit. I can see them, just don't know how to get them to another drive. I'd hate to cut and past them all - some of them are pictures and the camera memory has been erased.
