Thanks. I got a bit further down in the troubleshooting guide.

after rpm -Uvh --force fgl*.rpm

error: File not found by glob: fgl*.rpm

ok, sax2 started with the vesa switch. Will now try to get the fglrx running with the 1-click install.

maybe I will bug you later about the VirtualBox, but not today.
