Help! Trying to print to HP OfficeJet 6500 wireless

I went through YAST/Cups and added the network printer through its IP address and it was able to find it. However, I don't see a suitable driver in the list and when I try to print, it simply spits out empty pages. Anyone know how to get this printer working with openSuse 11?

Yes, change the version of hplip to the one in the packman repo.

The standard version is REALLY old and doesn't support a lot of newer printers.

Add the packman repo in yast (add, community repositories), search for hplip in the software manager, then select update.

That should do it.

You still might have to manually enter the printer's IP though.

But now that I installed hplip, what do I do?

OK, so I installed hplip, and then in CUPS I set the printer model to "HP->Officejet 6500" and it's got the same issue as before. It's printing empty pages!

What do I need to do to get this to work?

I got it working!!!

I had to delete the configured printer, reinstall everything but now it works!

I think that's quite clear: He removed the existing configuration, created a new one and thus solved the matter.

Thanks growbag for the suggestion of changing HPlip from Openssue to packman. After upgrading, I was able to configure my HP 6940 wirelessly as I did before, but the the upgrade recognized the printer wirelessly. It was wonderful to hear the test page printing in the other room!
