Keyboard not responding or working on Suse 11.1

To whom it may concern

I have Omni SE 4-Port where I have Window & Suse machine attach to the Port ... I use the Omni switch to switch back in forth between two machine ....

the keyboard & Mouse I use is PS/2
I have it attach to the Omni Switch
I use USB converter to attach mouse & keyboard into my USB Suse machine

the mouse works on Suse 11.0 but Keyboard does not .....

and what is so funny .... When I get to the Suse GUI login screen ...
I am able to type my ID & Password to log into the Suse machine .....
Once I am login into the suse machine ...Mouse work but Keyboard does not ..

Could somebody let me know if they have enconter such a problem and How did they resolved it ... thanks ..

I don't know if this is related to your problem, but I was also sharing a
keyboard, video, and mouse using the same brand and model KVM switch. I
used it for years, and the only problem I ever had was that the mouse would
sometimes lose sync when I switched from one machine to another. The
keyboard was PS2; the mouse was USB, connected to the KVM using a USB->PS2
converter; all of the PCs had PS2 connectors for both keyword and mouse.

Recently, however, I got a new machine that had only USB connectors for the
keyboard and mouse. I resolved the mechanical connection problem by
acquiring a PS2->USB converter; the PS2 cables from the KVM were plugged
into the PS2 side of the converter, and the USB side was plugged into the
PC.

It worked, but only barely. When switching to/from the USB machine,
however, the mouse would lose sync almost every time, and even the keyboard
was erratic. This last week, I gave up and got a new KVM switch that used
USB connectors and cables. Everything now works fine.

There are several brands available, but I settled on the CablesToGo TruLink
VGA and USB/PS2 KVM w/ Audio (model #35566). The keyboard and mouse can be
either PS2 or USB, but only a USB connection is provided to the PCs. It
even provides a USB hub that can be switched from PC to PC. I'm very
pleased with it. (No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.)

Down the road I am going to switch to an all USB KVM switch and I will take your suggestion CablesToGo Trulink & USB/PS2 KVM audio model in mind ...thanks you again Larry but I was able to resolved my problem without purchasing USB KVM switch ....

I resolved it this way ..

Keep in mind ... the only thing that was working was the mouse once I login to the machine ...

I click on configure desktop with the mouse
I click on Regional & Language
I click on Keyboard layout
I click on Enable Keyboard Layout
On Keyboard Model ... I selected Generic 101-Key PC
On Available Layout Model ... I re-Selected US and reinstall US (United States) keyboard
On Layout Variant ... I selected Default setting
and I click Apply ... and My keyboard is working now with no problem ..

hello. nearly same problem but only on a simple single suse 11.1 computer. Just suddenly stopped working after working for a year. It works with Knoppic ( a cd based linux) but absolutly no response to keypresses when running suse 11.1. No image,No action with suse 11.1. Suggestion in previous reply brought hope, but didn't work. Do I have to re-install? or what?

I found that removing

.kde4/share/config/kaccessrc
brought everything into order!.. I did have a problem doing this though as I have only one user on my system so had no keyboard working. So bless to twm, I was able to enter the command rm .kde4/share/config/kaccessrc under my home directory. Rebooting brought my keyboard back to life. ....kde...

Hi

I had the same problem. For unknown reasons the "use slow keys" option in:

Personal Settings -> Accessibility -> keyboard filters

was ticked... Deactivating it solved the problem.
