Suggestion: Novell acquired the company Mandriva.

For if the Novell acquired Mandriva, it would increase its presence in France but also in Europe, which also includes, increase its presence in Brazil and Latin America.

Mandriva is currently in crisis (Mandriva in the Storm), in my opinion, the best way to Mandriva would be its acquisition by Novell.

Its sad to see Mandriva fail, if indeed they do fail, but I do not think acquisition by another organization already with a Linux distribution would be a good business move for that organization. Rather IMHO any such acquisition would be better for a company that does NOT have their own Linux, but wants control over its own Linux distribution, and wants the Mandriva infrastructure (Mandriva employees and facilities) to start off right away with providing their own Linux distribution.

I've seen Novell fail miserably at many acquisitions over the years, and when they purchased SuSE-GmbH I confess while happy to see the cash infusion that SuSE-GmbH desperately needed (so as not to fail) I was also worried Novell corporate would somehow influence SuSE-GmbH to fail. That has not happened and hence I hope the current positive path continues. To deviate from that with failed additional Novell acquisitions (and there have been many failed acquisitions) would in my view be an expensive mistake.

I hope Mandriva succeed with an approach that does NOT involve openSUSE and Novell.

+1 to Novell not aquiring Mandriva. When they were Mandrake (an offshoot of RedHat) they were tuned more to innovation and progress but they kept biting the hands that fed them until they were forced to restructure. Coming out as Mandriva, I got PO'd fast as I found that updates no longer worked, the free download wouldn't install, and when I asked for some answers everything had this distasteful [buy] tag attached. They are clearly (by the screen shot link presented by the OP) focused strongly on only sales without support IMHO.

Novell has it's own (supported) enterprise line AND testmark line. They don't blindly ask you to put up money without offering bang for the buck.

Would be interesting, but probably won't happen.

Isn't Mandriva the other big KDE-backing distro?

The Community Mandriva, Mandriva asked for a statement regarding their current state, through an open letter (Community Asking Mandriva More Directions), and she responded by saying that now the Mandriva seems to be saved with the emergence of new investors (Mandriva Saved By New Investors - O'Reilly Broadcast), plus there are people who think that even with this move to put more money in Mandriva, it would not solve anything for your problem, because money would be wasted by their poor management (OSNews > Thread > "RE[2]: Mandriva will survive, it seems" by davidiwharper), so I guess its acquisition by Novell is the best way, because Novell knows how to manage your business very well, and with this acquisition, Novell expand their markets in a Global.

Mandriva has been in crisis for years now. They haven't done much in those years to prevent it's current predicament. They lost their way a long long time ago.

Reading the posts you pointed to is clearly supportive of Novell staying far away from an acquisition of Mandriva! Why would Novell want to commit suicide? by taking on a management nightmare.

    techwiz03,

Why is Novell, Mandriva purchase, Novell will put order in Mandriva and it will end this nightmare that Mandiva lives, and also will end once and for all with this crisis that the Mandriva live. The acquisition of Mandriva by Novell, it will not be the suicide of Novell, will be the salvation of Mandriva, and Novell also growth in several markets in a Global way. It will be good for everybody.
