Hello –
There is a Linux distribution with the by-line, “It just works!” Well, it doesn’t just work. I tried to download SUSE but Ubuntu gave me some problems. To give Linux a reasonable chance in the desktop space then it really should, “Just Work”. I loaded Ubuntu on my computer (I know, this isn’t an Ubuntu forum) and navigated to Playdio to listen to some tunes. Ubuntu can’t play those tunes … at least it can’t play them without some work on the OS. I downloaded SUSE but Ubuntu won’t burn the cd … there is a problem somewhere. I downloaded SKYPE but it doesn’t work … there is a problem somewhere. I can’t sync my Ipod, Iphone nor my Blackberry … there is a problem somewhere. I can’t download and install Flycast … there is a problem somewhere. You have the idea. I have my dual boot computer system, Linux on one partition and Windows on the other. Of those two, only Windows “Just Works.” I’m with ya on the open source stuff but Linux does not “Just Work” on the desk top. Oh well, back to Windows to play a little WoW. |

You're right!
He's right. We've all been wasting our time. ![]()

“Someone has been wasting their time. “
The bottom line is that Linux has to be faster, bigger and bolder. Barring that, then Linux will remain exactly where it has always been … or even less. The majority of people don’t care about open or closed source. They only want their stuff to work. |

Welcome to the forum. Nice poetry. Can someone turn it into a rap.

Oh sure. Like Windows "just works". You have to download codecs, and other apps to get Windows to work. You have to buy cd/dvd burning software. You have to configure things in Windows to. Please stop shoveling this... You have to ask yourself this. If Windows "just works" and Linux doesn't, then why is Linux growing? A serious question there.

I love Linux and tinkering it to "get it to work", but nothing beats Windows for "just works". Not yet. I am hoping Mint will get there one day. |
