I mean, Linux is OK only for basic computing tasks.
For more advanced uses you'll find much better apps for Windows. I won't even mention that Linux devs don't seem to care about users' needs, like it was blatantly the case with KDE4 (do you remember the "who needs users" boutade?)
Or that **** which is called Xorg.
Or the unwillingness to provide "non-free stuff" (worst offender: Debian).

Linux is only good for the basics? But Windows is not? Windows has better apps? When did this happen, what did I miss?

Actually, with all due respect, when I *really* started using my computer, I discovered that Linux was the better choice. I'm doing so much more now with Linux than I ever could before with Windows because I didn't have the money to buy expensive software packages for everything.

In addition to the fun stuff like recording TV/movies, music, etc, I am able to do everything required of me in a grad school Computer Science curriculum. Instructors would never suspect that I'm using Linux rather than Windows.

At first I was expecting to have to keep Windows handy, but I was quite pleasantly surprised to find out that there are decent open source equivalents to most everything I need.
