I pre-ordered mine! ... looking forward to stable DVD media and documentation... Also, loved the DARK look of the boxed version, really cool. Not my first purchase of official SuSE/openSUSE.. I mostly keep current with downloads of the distro's, however I like to contribute and show my appreciation and support by purchasing the "commercial" versions time to time and when there are major changes.. especially when the box is black!

Everyone else out there.. if you haven't purchased a SuSE/openSUSE product in the past, or haven't (pre)-ordered the latest 11.0, I highly recommend doing so. Show your support, and get the software product that isn't only cool to run, but LOOKS cool in box/packaging and on your shelf too!

I was keen to buy this, had been waiting through 10.3 for 11 (because of 10.3's broken repair facility). I chose the standard/cheapest international freight. By the time I had finished ordering, no frills, defaults only, the delivered price had gone from the advertised $60 to $107. I know Novell are a corporation with responsibilities to shareholders, BUT a hike of 80% on the advertised price due to hidden costs was just plain disappointing. So I aborted the order.

I've got a healthy level of cynicism because I've lived quite a while, but it's still possible to take me by surprise.

The last box version I bought was for 10.1...and boy did I get screwed on
that one. The rubbish updater was enough to make me skip the next two
iterations (I was buying each new release). I figure they've lost enough
money from me on that one, maybe I'll consider buying 11.

Whoa. That's a lot of hidden going on there.

The box definitely looks cool!

But, unfortunately, I don't have the money right now to buy the commercial version. I support the community, and appriecate all the work that the OpenSUSE Staff have done to make 11.0, but I'm going to have to be cheap and pay $0.10 for a DVD.

I don't have the funds available at the moment to pre-order openSUSE 11 at present

However I don't intend to upgrade straight away, hopefully I'll be able to purchase a boxed version by the time I get round to it.

I didn't know it cost so much to ship a simple box overseas.. from USA to Australia? (looks like you're from Oz land) Maybe the wacked out price of fuel everywhere has something to do with that *shrug* ... Fortunately for me I was able to get next-day flight delivery very cheap.

Doesn't Novell have any offices in Australia that they can ship product/boxes or pieces-to-be-assembled to? oh well.. at least openSUSE is really still free, and all you're really missing is a groovy looking box/package, pre-printed docs, DVD's you don't have to burn yourself, and some included official phone/mail support (which, since the nature of openSUSE is what it is, isn't a huge loss.. the community is pretty loyal and tight!)

And oh yeah... here's to hoping there aren't any big fubar'd functionality (re: previous non-working rescue/repair, etc) for this release! Cheers!

I'll get ungrumpy in a week or two and order it anyway -- I want to browse the handbook rather than read it from my hard drive at file:///usr/share/doc/manual/opensuse-manual_en/manual/index.html

I wonder why they quit selling SuSE at Amazon....? A Novell thing perhaps?
