Cool My Comments About This Forum...

Over all this is a great forum. The mods take care of issues as needed and keep this forum running smoothly, as well as keeping all that spam out. Since I am not anyone important here I can say I know how tough all of that is. Especially dealing with people. Most people are great but at times we all have our stupid moments and things can get very childish, to say the least. Of course you always have at least one or two that are like that all the time. Surprising how some can use any Linux distro and act so brain dead. (<---Was that last sentence too rude?)

The amount of support at this forum is great. I have had a couple of unanswered posts but that is usually because I am so impatient I try, and usually do, find a solution on my own even though I posted for help. Also the way that help is given is great to. Other Linux forums can have some very rude people that make it seem like they are doing you a favor but would rather have you shut up and not be stupid, (Even when you are not and are just trying to understand and figure things out.)

The community as a whole is also great. I have been seeing a lot of people, no matter what level of understanding they have, being as helpful as they can be.

My only complaint is that some of us need to lighten up a bit and see the funny side of things. Of course that is hard to do at times. Especially when someone is trying to get something to work, something that should work but it just doesn't want to for some reason. Even though you can post and try and find an answer hours seems like days if there is no fast reply. Yesterday I had an issue and lets just say I even had my cat hiding from me. I never realized I knew so many interesting words. Is there a law against verbally abusing your own hardware? I hope not. I am screwed if there is, lol.

In short great job here. It follows along the lines of the great job being done on openSUSE in general.

suse_amd64x2, thanks for the kind words.

Giving support can be very difficult at times. So can moderating a thread.

I find providing support, while it has its own rewards when successful, can be incredibly painful, especially when trying to get information needed to help someone's problem.

I've had threads where I have asked for the same thing a dozen times, ... and it just is not forth coming. The reason being the user has no idea what I mean, or they have an incorrect idea, and they keep doing the wrong thing. Or sometimes, they just do not want to do it, and they do not want to tell you that they do not want to do it.

And thus we have a communication gap that drives us both up the wall. .... I'm still trying to figure out how to handle that scenario. I want to walk away from the thread, but I know I will leave the person in the lurch. But it can be infuriating when they simply make the same mistake over and over, and ignore one's advise (or don't understand the advice). Often this is made worse because my knowledge is limited and often I can only help if they follow a specific method, ... if they deviate from the method (which they want to do) then I can't help .... and that in turn is frustrating.

Life is funny some times, and I guess we all can only try our best.

This is the best Linux support forum on the Web, in my opinion. Ubuntu's comes close, and I'm not disparaging them, but I give this one the edge.

The main reason is the people here, so I agree with suse_amd64x2.

This forum is great. The mods/people are very supportive.
I am also member of fedora, ubuntu, debian, mandriva forums.
But this one rocks. You will find help and solution here.
IMHO mandriva forum support is 2nd after this.
I personally really appreciate the community(mods and all) of openSUSE forum.

I agree that this is a very good forum. Friendly enough (you can't expect everyone to be a ray of sunshine), with very knowledgeable help. I've seen many threads started in this forum that would have been mercilessly attacked in other forums, but were treated with polite responses in this one.

Nice to read some positive comments. Thanks.
We all play a part though, it's a community. As Human Beings we can very easily see the negative/bad in things/persons, it come naturally - part of our self elevation tactics.
It is actually far better if we try and focus on the positive/good.

Constructive criticism is a force for good though.

I find that sometimes, I have to spell it out quiet literally for some of my
company's users. Try avoiding assuming knowledge, even of "obvious" things.
If the user is not reacting the way you want, it's likely that person is not
missing the point of what you want him to do, but rather has no clue how to
get there.

And allways keep the 2x4 LART hady. :-)

It helps, you know. Not for the current user, of course. But you'll be much more
relaxed for the next one...
