i see more and more folks with new HP minis (etc) pre-loaded with
SLED 10 stumbling into our forums seeking assistance.. which is fine until they ask their first question and the always friendly and helpful-but-unknowing-noob advises them to immediately dump that 'unsupported' and old version 10 and format/reinstall 11.1.. *instead*, in my opinion, there should be several prominently displayed stickies (or whatever) for those folks to go over to the novell and/or HP forums (i don't know the support agreements which accompany a SLED loaded HP).. and, it would also be nice if Novell provided HP with stickers to put on the box/machine which told the buyer to join forums.novell.com, for their getting started support.. -- primary |

Hi there
just saw this post and had a read out of interest. I just purchased a HP mini SLED 10, i agree on the idea of a stickers on boxes for support and which forums to go to for HP SLED. Although I joined the Novell register which runs for both novell and the opensuse forums same access and account. The openSuse forums was preset as a favorite in my mozilla already so points users of hp immediately to openSUSE forums. Had also looked at just a linux forum and they pointed several users on sled to these forums. So i'm not sure I guess it's the preference of Linux and HP to recommend opensuse for sled based minis.Emmy |

I suspect that HP were targeting business customers who might have SLED at work rather than the consumer market. Who knows how the market may evolve?

No worries!
It seems to me that the logical spot would be in the 'Welcome to openSUSE Forums' blurb that appears when you visit logged out - but having thought about it for a bit, if it wasn't considered overkill, I reckon a box in between the openSUSE Forums one and the Quick Links one on the left, saying something like 'SUSE Family', with links to SLED and SLES sites / forums, would make sense too. |

Normally i wouldn't care except i have already seen one new HP owner be advised format/install 11.1 because SUSE 10 is no longer supported actual sage advice from a one with three weeks Linux experience, all on 11.1 </sigh> -- primary |
