A captacha requirement on search is just plain stupid and annoying. It's made using the forums unfriendly for searching for resolutions. Because of this feature the forums are now the last place I look or even suggest to others to find answers to issues. I used to be a very active forum member until the mergers and stupid "features" like this were put in. Make the forums easier to use, not less user friendly.

I couldn't agree more. However, the issue was raised already a month or so ago, without noticeable reactions or results.

Agreed. Please remove the captcha for searches. It is unneeded and makes the information harder to access.

Well, it surely doesn't prevent Google from indexing the forums ... so how could it prevent other bots? Besides, what delicate info could they be gleaning? Our biometric data? I've rarely -- actually never -- seen so much as an email address posted on the forums. In my view, there's but one merit to the captcha; namely, that it's a PITA. To humans. And, well, maybe also to some neurotic bot out there.

For sure you can, you place a file called robots.txt and allow/disallow whom you like.... Code:

Hmm... my point was that the captcha can't stop the google bot, so how could it stop other bots. Can't exactly see the connection with robots.txt here...
Offtopic: today, I finally got me my Linux Counter id too!

As long as you are logged in you don't get the captcha
And you can always use the quick search Geoff Quote:

So, essentially, I can easily avoid entering the 5-letter captcha as long as I
1. enter my 9-letter username 2. enter my 11-letter password and press <Enter> 3. wait for the entered data to be processed and the page to update 4. click on Search and proceed with my search? A great shortcut for avoiding the captcha when in a hurry, thanx!
